Mrs. Willie Vernice (Roach) Wright, affectionately known as Willie V., was born on June 24, 1934, in Borden, Texas, to Willie Grant and Verniece (Wilson) Roach. The eldest of her siblings, she was a proud graduate of Columbus Colored High School and a devoted member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Glidden, Texas, where she gave her life to Christ at an early age. Here she devoted many years serving as a Deaconess, Choir Secretary, Vice President of Women Missionary, and a leader in the Baptist Training Union. Her dedication to her church and community reflected her deep love for God and her desire to serve others.
Known for her radiant smile that could light up any room, Mrs. Wright had a heart of gold and never turned her back on anyone in need. Her kindness, grace, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. She walked each day in faith, spreading the gospel through her words and deeds, and leaving behind a powerful example of Christian love and service.
She was united in marriage to Charlie Wright Sr. on July 10, 1954. Together they built a beautiful life filled with faith, love, and family, and were blessed with eight children: Rosie Mae Wright, Darlene Wright, Charlie Wright Jr. (Marilyn), Eddie Wright (Earnestine), Mark Wright Sr. (Jeannette), Demetrius Wright, Terrance Wright (Sheryl), Teressa Thomas (David) and her Godchild Christon Benford.
On October 22, 2025, the Lord called her home at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of her family. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosie Mae Wright; parents, Wille Grant and Verniece (Wilson) Roach; sisters, Helen Lowe, Murry Sephers, Thelma Axel, and Evelyn Roach; brothers, Early Roach Sr., and Floyd Roach; and two grandchildren, Mark Wright Jr. and Jerrick Kimble.
Mrs. Wright’s legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren — Amelia Caldwell (Darrell), Willie Connor, Darrell Johnson (Brenda), Lakeisha Thomas (Troy), Tywanna Flores (Juan), Terance Johnson (Brandi), Kiwanna Johnson, Ariel Thomas, and Arran Thomas — and her 19 great-grandchildren, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She also leaves to cherish her memories, her cousins who were like siblings, Margie Whitehead and Roy B. Wilson (Mary), and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Mrs. Willie Vernice Wright will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt; a woman of strength and firm faith; and a beacon of love in her family and community. Though she has departed this earthly home, her light will continue to shine brightly through all those who were blessed to know her.
