William Matthew Tones, the third child born May 20, 1944, to Louis and Velma Tones. He was raised with four other siblings in a small four room house. He learned to work hard and to be honest from his father and tender loving care from his mother.
William started school at the age of 5, in a one room school in Sparks, Texas. He often had to work in the cotton and rice fields. He attended Stevens-Mayo High School, where he played football, and ran track. His favorite subject was math and he was voted: "Most Handsome" in the 10th grade.
Upon his graduation in 1962, he followed his sister Roylene to San Antonio and got a job working at Roegelein Meat Packing Company. He met and married Gladys Marie Winfree of Houston, Texas in 1966. To this union, three children were born, Royry Glenn, Michelle Denise, and Debora Alecia.
William retired from working in 2008 and continued to live a happy and full life.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Tones, two brothers, Louise Alphonse and Larry (Carolyn) Tones.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Michelle Denise (Matthew) Murphy and Debora Alecia Tones. Son, Royry Glenn Tones, two sisters, Roylene Williams and Lottie Ray (Presley) Sims, one aunt, Delton King and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
