In Loving Memory of Velma (Mae) Lorraine Cunningham
Velma (Mae) Lorraine was born on December 13, 1937, in Good Hope, Texas, the fourth child of Howard and Augusta Williams. She was raised in Oakland, Texas, where she attended school and spent her early years.
Velma later united in holy matrimony with Roy Lee Cunningham. A devoted wife and homemaker, she eventually relocated to Houston, Texas, where she resided for more than 38 years. During her time in Houston, she worked as a cafeteria employee and found joy in cooking, playing bingo, going on shopping trips, and fishing.
In 1985, Velma returned to Oakland, where she lived until the passing of her beloved husband. She then moved to Weimar, Texas, and was employed by Double B Inc.
Velma accepted Christ into her life and was a faithful member of New Zion Temple #2 in Oakland. She was known for her loving spirit, quiet nature, generous heart, and deep love for her family and friends.
On April 6, 2025, Velma peacefully departed this life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Augusta Williams; her husband, Roy Lee Cunningham; her son, Howard Thomas; her brothers, James Howard Williams and Willie Ray Williams; and her sisters, Gladys Baines, Maggie Henderson, and Helen Williams.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her brother, Rev. M.J. Williams (Vicky); goddaughter, Chasidy Williams; nieces, Carolyn Williams, Joyce Foley (Melvin), Debra Morris (Wayne), and Sandra Caine; nephews, Rev. Clarece Baines Jr. (Gloria), Alton Baines (Thelma), Mikel Boston, Barry Baines (Marcela), Norman Henderson Jr. (Lillian), Gerry Henderson (Alline), Rev.
