Thelma Williams Obituary

Sister Thelma Jean Williams was the fourth child born to Miss .Minnie Jones. Sister Thelma was born on September, 10,1940. Her father was Mose Williams. Sister Thelma grew up as a happy child and attended Flatonia Colored School and joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church at an early age. She was a very hard working lady all of her life. Her working days were spent as a cook, a waitress, a housekeeper, a caregiver and a produce worker. One of the hobbies that she enjoyed was that of sewing and quilt making. She would not only sew for family members, but she would sew for others and would make bedspreads for sale to make extra money for the household. Doing all these jobs enabled her to buy a house. She was so proud of this event. During her lifetime she had one daughter- Silvia Jean (Williams) Haywood. She was so very happy and please with her only child. They did everything together and were practically inseparable. They worked in the church together, Sister Thelma  moved her mother into her home, so that she could tend to her after she became stricken with arthritis. After Silvia married, she had one son- Carroll (Doug) Haywood, Jr. who brought great joy to the family. When he grew up, went to college, and married the love of his life- Tarasha Haywood and had two lovely children. Sister Thelma was as happy as could be about this grandchild and her great grandchildren.

Over the years, Sister Thelma worked very hard in the church offices. She started out as an "Usher". She worked as a "Stewardess" and "Missionary Worker". Then she became a "Trustee" of the church during the time that the new church was built. She loved making cakes and sandwiches for the church's special days such as Homecoming, Church Musicals, Women's Day, Men's Day and other various events. She and her sister Hattie, and her cousin, Marjorie would attend several churches around the area like New Union Baptist Church, Mt. Olive, Mt. Eden, St. Paul AME in Moulton and she attended numerous "Quarterly Conferences". Additionally she would often attend the Annual Conferences,

Sister Thelma was preceded in death by her precious and most loving daughter, Sylvia Haywood, her mother, Minnie, her father, Mose, her sister, Hattie, her brothers, Raymond, Earnest and Levi. She leaves to morn her passing; her loving grandson, Carroll (Doug) Haywood, Jr. and his wife, Tarasha, and the the great grandchildren, Deshawn and Kaileigh Skidmore-Haywood and numerous nieces, nephews , cousins, friends and church members.

Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on earth.  Colossians 3:12
