Her Earthly Journey
Thelma Ray Devroe was born February 15, 1935, in Holman, Texas to Earl and Katherine Thompson. She was the first born of two. Thelma attended school in La Grange and Dunbar located in Temple, Texas. She confessed her love for Christ at an early age. She was a member of Bethlehem AME Church in La Grange, Texas. Later in life she became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church n Plum, Texas.
Thelma worked at the old hospital in La Grange for many years. She also worked at the old Bon Ton Restaurant before she retired. Her passion was going to church and praising the Lord! Her hobbies were playing bingo, cards and visiting with family and friends. She loved to make people laugh and was always the center of attention.
Thelma was married to Clarence Devroe and they had one son named Michael Devroe. She had two other children who preceded her in death, Kathy Candrick and Milton Candrick, one grandson, Demarkkus Johnson; father, Earl Thompson and mother, Katherine Thompson.also preceded her in death.
She leaves behind her cherished son, Michael Devroe and daughter-in-law, Terril Devroe; one brother, Earl Thompson and sister-in-law, Keya Thompson; one aunt, Margaret Adams, seven grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, many cousins and friends who she loved well.
