On June 27, 1947, Thelma Lee Roach was born to Willie Grant and Verneice (Wilson) Roach in Glidden, TX. She confessed to Christ at an early age and was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Glidden, TX. Upon graduating from Riverside High School, Thelma continued with additional studies at Prairie View A&M University.
Thelma fell in love with Thomas James Axel, and they were married in December of 1963; together they raised six children. After years of travel as a dedicated military spouse, Thelma & family returned to Columbus, TX. She worked for many years as an employee of Colorado County, and faithfully served as a deaconess and choir member at New Greater Smith Chapel Baptist Church.
On August 4, 2023, Thelma Lee departed this life. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Thomas James Axel Jr.; and her siblings, Early Roach Sr., Floyd Roach, Helen Lowe, and Murray Sephers. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children: Angelina Yvette Shepherd of Columbus, TX; Reginald Lamont Axel, Sr. (Daryllnn) of Los Angeles, CA, Akisha Cinai Hernandez (Isaac) of League City, TX, TeNika DaShawn Lindsey (Matthew) of Houston, TX, and TaMika Monique Axel of Carrollton, TX; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sisters Willie V Wright (Charlie) of Glidden, TX; Margie Whitehead of Glidden, TX; and brother, Roy B. Wilson (Mary) of Hallettsville, TX. She also leaves to cherish her memories her nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
