The scene was set! The summons made! There was need of another angel to join the celestial body. "ENOUGH! THE TIME HAS COME! GO AND COLLECT MS. RUBY!" the MASTER commanded. And early in the morning on September the fifteenth angels descended bringing with them a new set of wings... just the right fit for Ms. Ruby Lee Campbell.
On September 4, 1946, a bubbly baby girl was born on Sandhill to J. C. and Nadine Johnson. They named her Ruby, after the gem signifying health, wealth, wisdom, success, and love. She confessed Christ at an early age, becoming a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She received her formal education from Karl Downs in Weimar and later received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in elementary education from Texas Southern University working for a short time with the Houston Independent School District until illness befell her causing her to vacate her duties.
Ruby later married and divorced Larry Campbell sharing with him during their union a loving daughter, Kandra Campbell who has been by her side throughout her triumphs, trials, and tribulations. Ruby was an avid lover of music and a darn good cook.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J. C. and Nadine Johnson and her brother, L. C. Johnson but she leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Kandra Campbell, one grandson, Camden Campbell, two sisters, Essie Williams (Richard), Betty Rasmus (James), one brother, Willie Johnson (Charlene), and serveral close cousins, one aunt and a number of friends.
"REST now, Ruby, for you have endured a long struggle."
