Myrtle Lemons was born on February 22, 1952, to Gracie and Cunnie McAfee. She grew up in Hallettsville, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age and served the Lord until her health failed. Myrtle was an active member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the usher board and singing in the choir.
Myrtle attended school in Hallettsville at Stevens Mayo until the seventh grade and then completed her high school education at Hallettsville High School. After graduation, she continued her education at St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas.
Myrtle married Marvin Earl Baines in 1972 and to this union two daughters were born Stephanie and Vanessa Baines. She later married the love of her life, Joe Ervin Lemons and were happily married until the Lord called him home.
Myrtle was known for her beautiful smile and her love for all people, she never met a stranger. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
She leaves to cherish her love and memories: two daughters, Stephanie Baines and Vanessa Baines, one special son, Jernard Conaway, Sr. (Courtney), four grandchildren, Kristopher Stevenson (Jennifer), Damond and Kenna Grant and Dezira Shropshire, three brothers, Fred, Curtis and Manuel McAfee and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
