Mrs. Marie Johnson Barfield was born April 6, 1937, in Columbus, Texas to the late Mr. L.V. Johnson, Sr. and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Johnson. She was the 2nd of ten children. She attended public schools in Columbus, Texas and was baptized at an early age at New Greater Smith Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. B. Sanders, Sr. In 1960 she met and married Clifton W. Barfield of Cuero, Texas.
Marie has worked as a housekeeper in homes and for apartment buildings until her health began to fail. She was loved by her family and friends. She was kind-hearted, loved to laugh. loved music and dancing. She was all about family and friends. She shared kindness so much that she would let anyone stay in her home. She was "Big Mama" to many kids.
Marie made her final transition from this earthly life into eternal rest on Monday, January 15, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joe Lloyd Johnson, L.V. Johnson, Jr. and Cleveland Johnson, sister, Ella Mae Moss, daughter, Gloria Jean Johnson, granddaughter, Latria Mitchell, niece, Darlene Clay, nephews, Gary Redus, Stanley Redus, and Fredrick Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Patricia McPherson (Jesse), Cheryl Barfield, Theresa Davis (Kenneth), Therese Barfield and Lee Amy Barfield all of Houston, Texas: Sons, Clifton Barfield, Jr., Donald Ray Johnson (Annette), Curtis Lane Barfield, Stanley Aaron, and Terrance Aaron all of Houston, Texas: Sisters, Etta Lee Redus of Bay City, Texas, Pearlie Mae Wilson, Jennie Adams, Evelyn Allen (I.B.) all of Houston, Texas, and Ruby Obey of Columbus, Texas, 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. And also, a special lady. Ms. Gwen Freeman, her provider that took care of her for over eleven years.
