On July 20, 1942, in Colorado County, Texas, a beautiful baby girl named Margie Marie was born to the late Lester Brown and Edna Mae Hamilton-Brown. Margie was delivered by her grandmother Mellisa Thompson, a midwife. Margie grew up in the Independence Community of Colorado County, Texas. Margie attended Clear Creek Elementary School, in Colorado County, Texas. Margie attended middle school at Hollenbeck Middle School in California. When she returned to Texas, Margie attended Karl Downs High School in Weimar, Texas. Margie was a proud graduate of Karl Downs High School, Class of 1962.
In her youth, Margie was baptized at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Oakland, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor S.D. Miller in1960. Margie's church membership was at the Independent Methodist Church. She was a devoted member of her home church. Later on in life, Margie became a member of Saint James AME Church in Weimar, Texas. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, she passionately laid a solid foundation of Faith in Christ for her three daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She lived most of her life in Colorado County, Texas, and Fayette County, Texas. However, after graduating from high school she lived briefly in Galveston, Texas with her oldest sister Isabel Francis. After leaving Galveston, Margie started working at the Schulenburg Greyhound Bus Station as a cook, which was her lifelong passion. She later worked at Colony Nursing Home in Schulenburg, Texas. After leaving the nursing home, Margie spent the rest of her working life at Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenburg, where she became a well-known favorite cook.
Margie was the mother of her daughters, Charlette Ann, Carolyn Jean, and Christi Gayle. They are Margie's 3 C's. She became a mother for the first time, when Margie and Bobby Joe Glover welcomed the birth of her eldest daughter, Charlette Ann. She became a mother for a second time, when Margie and Raymond Dickens welcomed the birth of their daughter, Carolyn Jean (often called CalJean). Margie became a mother for a third time, when Margie and Clarence McMillian welcomed the birth of their daughter Christi Gayle.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Margie departed her earthly life at Round Rock Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas. She is survived by her husband Arthur Ray Fields, three daughters. Charlette Ann Robinson (Michael) of Leander, Texas. Carolyn Jean Brown-Johnican (Michael) of Houston, Texas, and Christi Gayle McMillian of LaGrange, Texas.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Edna Brown, siblings Isabel Francis Goodlow, Claude Howard Brown, Lester Brown, Jr, Lucille Wright, Mary Brown and Maxine Mathews, granddaughter Faith.
Margie leaves to cherish her memories three sisters. Erma Lee Toliver of Los Angeles, California, Mamie Lee Scott, and Lorene Davis of Deer Park, Texas. And one brother Arthur William Brown (affectionately known as A.W.), nine grandchildren: Talisha Edna Denise Brown, Michael Demetrius Brown, Claudryll Alexander Carter, Elizabeth Jae Johnican, Michael Alexander Johnican, Braylon Don Jarmon, Timmy Hodges, Cecelilo Robinson and Timothy Robinson, five great-grandchildren: Trinity Brown, Hayden Brown, Carson Brown, Lalia Brown and Makayla Brown, sisters-in-law: Ora L. Dixon, Moudean Fields, Mae H. Henderson, Rosie L. Barnes, Floradean White and brother-in-law Herbert L. Fields.
Margie shared a very special bond with her cousins Marie Luckey, Orleine Wilson, LaVerne Brown and friends Odiedee Townsend and Eloris Nikalson aka Dee. In addition, Margie leaves behind a whole host of other family and friends. Margie Marie Brown-Fields was an amazing God-fearing woman, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin and friend. She will be sorely missed and forever remembered by all who loved her.
