The Story of Her Journey: Lois Mae White Carroll "Mama Lois"

Lois Mae White was born on July 11, 1930, to Louise Gordon and Thomas White in Engle, Texas. Affectionately known as "Mama Lois," she later moved with her mother to Schulenburg, Texas. At the age of five, Mama Lois became the foster daughter of Mr. Walter and Mrs. Josie Moore, where she was raised until adulthood. She attended Schulenburg Colored High School on St. John Road.

During her youth, Mama Lois joined Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized under the leadership of the late Dr. George W. Edwards. She remained a lifelong member of the church and was revered as the Mother of the Church until her passing.

Mama Lois held various positions over the years, including working at Klosel Restaurant & Bus Station, Clark Country Corral, and College Place Assisted Living.

On February 4, 1946, she married Aaron Carroll, Sr. (affectionately known as "Papa Bub"). Together, they had four sons: Aaron Jr., Larry G., James E., and Alvin L. Carroll. They also raised their grandson, Craig Allen Carroll. Mama Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons (Aaron Jr., Larry, and Alvin), and her daughter-in-law, Delphia Carroll.

Mama Lois leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, which will be carried on by her son, James E. Carroll, grandsons Craig Carroll, Delano Carroll (Elisa), Tyronne Carroll, Christopher Carroll (Nanette), Joseph Carroll, Carlton Carroll, and Jamaal Carroll, granddaughters Schendera Carroll Molina (Richard), Ericka Carroll, Bridgett Carroll, Angela Carroll, Jennifer Carroll, Nakeshia Carroll, Danica Carroll, and Larrah Carroll Pellum (Cedric). She is also survived by her sisters Sylvia White Ford, Dorothy Carr, and Mildred Williams, daughters-in-law Linda Carroll and Carol Ann Carroll, and her special niece Shawn Williams. Additionally, Mama Lois is remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her lifelong friends Rose Woods, Marsha Caine, and Barbara Patterson.
