Leon Perkins was born to the late Rev. Will L. Perkins and Frankie (Foley) Perkins in Hallettsville, Texas, on January 8th, 1950. He was the third of six children born to this union. At an early age, he confessed his hope in Christ.
He attended Stevens-Mayo, an all-black school, and graduated from Hallettsville High School. He later attended Austin Community College, completing several courses. He pursued his dream of attending the police academy in Victoria and Travis County.
Leon had a passion for running track and traveling in his spare time. In 1968, he married Mildred J. Johnson, and to this union, three children were born.
On May 21, 2026, Leon departed this life. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Will L. Perkins; his mother, Frankie Foley Perkins; two brothers, Wilbert Perkins and Leonard James Perkins Sr.; sister, Dorothy Arnold; three brothers-in-law, Leonard (Sonny) King, Herbert Shelton, and Henry Matthew Arnold, one nephew and one grandson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Eric and Rebecca Anderson of Round Rock, Texas, Raymond Perkins of Altair, Texas, Randy Perkins of Round Rock, Texas. Two sisters, Willie B. King of Eagle Lake, Texas and Evelyn Shelton of Hallettsville, Texas. He also leaves ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, Dea Wimpson, Bro Carl Franklin and the late Rev. Albert Lemons.
