Mother Laura Mae King was born on March 2, 1943 to Viola and Levi Davis in Nelsonville, Texas. She attended school at Bethune School in Industry, Texas. The remaining of her education occurred at Sealy Middle School and Bellville High School
She accepted Christ at an early age at Sweet Home Church of God in Christ in Fayetteville Bottoms, in which was the original name for the current Cedar of Lebanon Church of God in Christ.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, James "Jana" King, Jr. of Nelsonville, Texas on July 25, 1961 and they became proud parents of 3 boys, Dennis Wayne King, Timothy James King and Kenneth Earl King. She and her family resided in Houston, Texas for a number of years where she was a faithful of the Bible Days Revival Church under the leadership of Apostle E. W. Wilcots, before returning to the Cedar of Lebanon Church of God in Christ.
After returning to her home church in Fayetteville, she held several positions, ranging from Sunday School Teacher, Pastor Aide President and Choir Member. Most recently she served in the role as "Mother of the Church" for ten years. Mother King loved praising and serving God.
Mother King brought her boys up in the church, where they held positions as Sunday School Teachers and Ministers. She worked in the House Keeping Field at the original Sheraton Hotel in Houston, Texas after moving there in her early life. She had several hobbies: cooking, baking, sewing and fishing, while spending time with her family.
Though she battled health issues with her legs for years, she never lost her faith or joy, being in service and praising God. One day after being in service, Mother King made her earthly transition from her home in Fayetteville, Texas.
Mother Laura Mae King was proceeded in death by her husband, James King, Jr., her mother, Viola Green Davis, her father, Levi Davis, step-father, Andrew Davis, brothers, Andrew Davis, Jr., Robert Lee Davis and her sister, Fannie Mae Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Dennis Wayne King (Delores0 of Houston, TX, Timothy James King of Freeport, TX and Kenneth Earle King (Niki) of Houston, TX, a brother, Henry Davis, Sr. (Mablean) of Industry, TX. Seven grandchildren; Miki Kelly, Kenneth King, Jr.. Kendra King, Donna, Teauna Tyler, Timiah King, LaAvianne King and four great grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters-in-law; Linda Ling, Jerelean Williams, Ernestine Jerrell, Susan Gonzales, Marilyn King, Annie Davis and brothers-in-law; Rucker King, Sr., Ike King, Anton King and Victor Jerrell and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
