Joe Eddie was born on May 20, 1953, in Houston, Texas, to parents Ila V. and Fred. He attended Harper and Abraham Lincoln Schools. During his time in Houston, he was employed by Ed Sacks Paper Company and Terra Firma Enterprises.
In April 1974, Joe met Hazel (Scott) McDaniel. The couple spent several years in Houston before moving to La Grange, Texas. There, Joe worked for BJ Western and WW Nichols, Inc., until his health began to decline.
Joe was known for his outgoing nature and zest for life. He loved spending time with family and friends, who affectionately nicknamed him “Fast.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ila V. and Fred, and his sisters: Gloria, Bertha, Gladys, Betty Joyce, Freddie, and Arista.
On April 24, 2025, Joe Eddie was called home. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 48 years, Hazel; daughters Kimberly (Clint), Demetria "DeeDee" (Michael), and Cara (Jay); brothers Jackie, Leon, Walter Ray (Linda), and Kennedy (Loretta); sisters Jeanette, Deola (Charles), and Evelyn (Ricky); 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Frances Scott, two aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will cherish his memory.
