Jimmy Lee Jones was born in Moody, Texas, on February 12, 1951.
He was the second child to the union of A.V. Jones and Mildred Jones-Thomas. They would move to Smithville, Texas where Jimmy would grow up as a young boy with his three sisters.
A few years later Jimmy and his family would move to Kendleton, Texas with his Stepfather, Cleveland Neal. Jimmy attended Little Zion Baptist Church and confessed his life early to Christ under the late Pastor Means.
Jimmy attended public schools and graduated from Powell Point High School in Kendleton, Texas. School was a place where Jimmy was well known for his art and would draw the teachers bulletin boards and other artwork. Jimmy received a scholarship in art to Wharton County Junior College but decided to go to work at the WKM Steel Plant in Rosenberg, Texas. Jimmy would go on to work for the steel plant until the plant closed in the mid-eighties. He continued to work temporary jobs and helped in the Kendleton community as a volunteer until he moved to Smithville in the late eighties after a tragic family event. Jimmy served as a humble public servant in the Smithville community and never met a stranger. His friends could always count on him for a smile, laugh or a good joke from time to time. Jimmy was always willing to help his neighbors and the community. Jimmy remained a resident of Smithville until his passing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, A.V. Jones, Mildred Thomas Neals, Cleveland Neal; three sisters: Irene Jones, Christell Jones, Jeanette Jones, and Brother, Norman Jones
He is survived by his sisters Lillie Mae Jones-Parker of Katy, Texas, Brenda Jones, Dorene Scott(Perry), Lorraine Stevens(Joe), all of Fort Worth, Texas; and special niece, Raquel Jones-Whitney, Austin, Texas; Brothers: Rufus Jones(Troylene), Willing Ewing and Patrick Jones; one uncle, Tomel Thomas of Galveston, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
