ELENTHA SIMMS GRIGGS was born April 11, 1940, in Flatonia, Texas to the late Uel and Rebecca Simms. Elentha received her formal education at Flatonia Elementary School and La Grange High School. Elentha accepted Christ at an early age where she attended Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Waelder, Texas. After graduating, she was united in holy matrimony to Curtis Griggs, Sr., who preceded her in death. During their union, they raised two sons, Curtis, Jr. and Craig Anthony.
Elentha's professional career started in the public school system, where she worked for 36 years as a Teacher's Assistant in the Calhoun School District in Port Lavaca, Texas until her retirement in 2010. She had a passion for caring and helping others, so she obtained a Certificate for Home Health Assistance to better her nursing skills.
Elentha was a sophisticated, classy lady with exquisite style! She loved her Bling Bling accessories that added to her donning outfits that captured and captivated everyone's attention. She was especially known for making beautiful, tiered wedding cakes.
She is preceded in death by her oldest son, Curtis Griggs, Jr., her parents, her brothers, Uel Simms, Jr. and Joseph Simms; her sister, Dorsena Hayden, brother-in-law, Arnold Hayden and sister-in-law, Earlene Simms, nephews, Samuel Norfleet and Marcus Benson.
Elentha leaves to cherish her legacy: her son, Craig Anthony Griggs (Hattie), daughter-in-law, Dawn Giggs, brothers, S. L. Simms, James Simms and Prince Simms, sisters, Marcel Norfleet, Francis Benson (Richard) and Faye Penamon (Marvin). a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, very good friends, and a special friend, Mr. M. Coleman.
