Sister Delores Lee Glass Matthews was born August 20, 1931, to her loving parents, Henry B. Glass and Alma Flowers Glass. Delores grew up with six siblings, Bessie Mae, Mable, Arelius, Dorothy, Emma Jean and Emmitt.
She began her married life with her husband, Charles N. Matthews and to this union seven children were born, Charles Jr., James, Evelyn, Catherine, Tommie Ree, Willie and Vernell. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully until her death. Her entire family attended the church.
Delores worked as a newspaper associate for the Schulenburg Sticker. She was the first black Social Worker for the government at the La Grange Court House Food and Agriculture, passing out commodities for low-income families in need. Her final employment before retirement was with UTEX in Humble, Texas. Later she transferred with the company to Weimar, Texas. Delores worked as a supervisor on all her jobs throughout her employment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Bessie Mae, Mable, Arelious, Erma Jean and Emmitt, her daughter, Catherine, and sons, Charles Jr. and James Matthews.
She leaves a Legacy of Love to her children: Tommie Ree (James) Baker, (Elroy Miller, Jr., Chris Miller, Sr. and Monica Lott), Vermell (Frank) Shiley, (Montrell Burley and Ashley Burley), Willie Matthews, James Matthews (deceased), Byron, Nitosha Tubbs, Nikeisha, Jeanetta Gray and Lacretia) Evelyn Strait (Craig Carroll, Gerald T. Carroll, Jamal, Leighton, Leland and Lucretia Strait) all of San Antonio, Texas, sister, Dorothy Redus of Houston, Texas, sister-in-law, Henriette Glass of Freeport, Texas, 27 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
