Clyde Robert Derricks was born September 29, 1946 in Dallas, Texas to Leslie and Clemmie Derricks he was the eldest of seven children. Growing up, Clyde was conscientious, honest, kind, loving and reliable, He dutifully fulfilled the responsibilities and tasks given to him by his mother. While his mother was at work, Clyde along with his brother Willie, helped out by cooking, cleaning and taking care of their younger siblings.
Clyde received his formal education in the Dallas Independent School District, attending George Washington Carver Elementary, James Madison High School and Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. While in high school he played sports (football). He is a member of Roosevelt High School's (second graduating class) the Class of 1965. Clyde's mom raised him in holiness, in the early 1960's he became a member of the Free Church of God in Christ in Jesus' Name, During his teenage years Clyde traveled with the founder and pastor Bishop Earl Evans and assisted with building and repairing various churches in the organization, In later years, he went to Dallas to attend the September convention of the Free Church.
He was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad on September 5, 1978, as a trackman in Dallas following a friend's recommendation. Prior to joining the railroad, Clyde served in the U.S. Army, where he was inducted in 1968. He completed basic training in Fort Pike and served two years in Germany where he played football for the Army as a defensive tackle. In 1975 he attended Airborne School and would go on to retire from the military with the Texas National Guard in 1992 as Staff Sergeant with the 386 Engineering Division.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Valerie Derricks of Flatonia ;four daughters, Tammy Derricks Williams (Anthony) of Dallas, Rhonda Williams of Flatonia, Rosalyn Williams of Austin and Vicky Derricks of Dallas; three sons, John Gordon of Flatonia, Ricky Derricks of Dallas and Joe Williams of Austin. Two brothers, Willie Derricks (Laura) of Dallas, and Arthur Derricks (Willie Mae) of Dallas. Two sisters, Amos Roney and Sarah Reeves (Reginald), Eight grandchildren, Joshua Haraman, III, Jasmine Phillips, Asia Houston, Edward Houston, Joi Williams, Quinci Seger Gordon, Delaini Gordon, and Maurice Weatherspoon. Five Great Grandchildren; Steven Derricks, Jr., Kamari Steele, Emelie Houston, Masiah Houston and Ethan Houston and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
