Carol Jean Gordon, born on May 30, 1946, in Wharton, Texas, to the late Johnny Gordon and Juanita Waddell, peacefully passed away on December 24, 2024, at the age of 78. At an early age, Carol accepted Christ under the pastoral leadership of the late Pastor Arthur Gaines, Sr. at St. Paul Baptist Church in New Ulm, Texas. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
Carol's journey through life was marked by a deep love for family and an unwavering commitment to her community. She attended school in East Bernard, Texas, starting in 1952, before moving to New Ulm, Texas, where she continued her education at Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School and attended Sealy High School before moving to Galena Park, Texas and graduating from Galena Park High School in 1964.
After graduating from high school, Carol began her career at Southwestern Bell, now known as AT&T, where she dedicated more than 30 years of service before retiring. Her work ethic and dedication were admired by her colleagues and loved ones alike. Carol united in holy matrimony with Tidwall Earl Coile on July 29, 1967. They parted ways and Carol continued to live a full and meaningful life surrounded by friends and family. Carol later married Charles Chatman on March 6, 2005, and together they built a life filled with love and joy. Throughout her life, Carol was known for her warmth, kindness, and generosity, always putting her family first.
Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Chatman; father, Johnny Gordon; mother, Juanita Waddell; brothers, Glenn Gordon and Carl Gordon. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved sisters, Barbara Ray and Janet Curry of Houston, Texas; brothers, Johnny Gordon (Faye) of Sealy, Texas, Rev. Emanuel Waddell (Cynthia) of Houston, Texas. and Craig Waddell (Dell) of La Grange, Texas. She will also be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Carol's legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
