A. J. McAfee was born on August 23, 1944, in Hallettsville, Texas to the late Elvin McAfee and Abby Sadler McAfee. He was affectionately known to his family as "Biggam". A.J. accepted and dedicated his life to Christ at a very early age and became a Deacon at Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Hallettsville High School, where he also played football.
In 1969 he met the loves of his life in Smithville, Texas. Her name was Beatrice, but he called her "Bee". They were married in 1970. and later started a family. A.J. worked for the Houston Chronicle, NCI Daycare, Perry Homes, and retired from Truck Salvage. He had a passion for farming and livestock. He was known for growing hogs, building chicken coops, and he loved fishing. A. J. was an excellent worker, remarkable husband, amazing father and an outstanding son, brother, and friend. A TRUE ANGEL INDEED. He was always a very committed person with great integrity and always stood for what was right and was dedicated to his wife and children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Clarence McAfee and three sisters, Lorne Prince, Ethel McAfee and Portia Jefferson.
He leaves to cherish his memories in their hearts: his wife of fifty-five years, Beatrice McAfee, children, Alorine Jeannette McAfee, Adrian McAfee (Sharon), Melody Ford Williams (Jimmie), and Frederick Johnson, grandchildren, Patrice Flowers, Patrick Hilton, Sharnella Johnson, Sade Johnson, Destanie Ford, and JaNae Williams. Great Grandchildren, Daelyn Thompson, Elijah Robinson and Samiya Johnson. Two sisters, Katherine West and Hazel Steward. Holding a special place in his heat, brother-in-law, David Johnson. He is also remembered by his sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
